Bringing life into our cabin

My gigantic, happy philodendron.

I’ve been thinking about the winter a lot lately.

With the weather getting colder and the days getting shorter, under normal circumstances, I would spend more time going out to dinner, visiting bars with friends, and working on my laptop in coffee shops. Of course, due to the pandemic, that’s not going to happen this year. Instead, I anticipate taking a lot of walks with friends (time to invest in a better jacket!) and spending a lot of snuggly evenings at home. And don’t get me wrong — I love snuggly evenings at home — but let’s be real: after a while, they can become monotonous. Especially when you live in a 600 square foot cabin and work from home with your spouse (thank goodness we have the horse barn because sometimes it feels…crowded…in here.).

I recently read this helpful article that got me thinking about making our tiny cabin a little more home-y for the winter. In addition to getting some new string lights, curtains, and a few other cozy staples for winter, I’ve also been bringing the garden indoors in the way of house plants.

I love house plants, don’t you? They’re low maintenance, pretty, and add a literal breath of fresh air to any space. Above, I’ve included a photo of our giant philodendron, which is so happy it’s taking over our ceiling. In addition to this, I have nine other green buddies living in the house — and believe it or not, I have the shelf space for at least one or two more.

What are your favorite varieties of house plants? Feel free to email me photos of yours and tell me why you love them!
